The lobster is a soft, pulpy animal that lives inside a rigid shell. That rigid shell does not expand. So how does the lobster grow? Well, as the lobster grows, the shell becomes a great constraint, and the lobster feels under a lot of pressure and discomfort. It goes under a rock formation to protect itself from predators, leaves its shell and produces a new one. Eventually, that shell also becomes very uncomfortable as it grows. And the lobster repeats this several times. „The stimulus that allows the lobster to grow is to feel uncomfortable“.
